Sports medicine/athletic training majors are the hands-on practitioners at the sidelines, keeping athletes in their games. Their specialization in the health care of active people means that they are working constantly to prevent injuries, treat emergencies, evaluate needs and rehabilitate athletes, as well as guiding them in proper nutrition, strength and conditioning.
The NCC Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Sciences curriculum provides students with the opportunity to explore the area of sports medicine through courses in anatomy and physiology, nutrition, care and prevention of athletic injuries, basic training techniques, and exercise physiology.
The Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Sciences Degree is a fall-start clinical program. The application opens on October 1 and must be completed by July 1.
This is a selective program, please carefully review all provided information and requirements.
Admissions Requirements Program DetailsIf you're planning to attend a four-year college or university, Northampton's Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Sciences program is an affordable way to start your education. With a curriculum that parallels the first two years of most four-year programs, NCC's program can save you thousands of dollars on your undergraduate degree while providing the essential foundational skills to thrive at your transfer institution.
If you are a Northampton Community College student living outside of Pennsylvania or intending to complete an internship or clinical placement outside of the state in a NCC program leading to professional licensure, you should review requirements on the state board website to make sure that the program qualifies.
Licensure requirements vary from state to state and you may require additional authorization from the professional licensing agency in that state. Participating in a program from outside of Pennsylvania, if not properly authorized by that state's professional licensing board, could result in loss of licensing eligibility. If you need help or have questions, please contact the Program Director for more information.
Graduates of the program can expect to find jobs as Certified Athletic Trainers, Personal Trainers, Health Fitness Instructors, Group Fitness Instructors, Exercise Physiologists, Exercise Specialists, or Weight Management Consultants. Athletic Trainers are employed in a variety of settings, from working with professional sports teams to also being employed at colleges and universities, hospitals, offices of other medical practitioners, gyms and fitness centers, and in the entertainment and recreation industries.
