Middle Level Education
The adolescent years are extraordinary periods of human development. Middle level educators are in a position to create a positive future for students by providing a careful and compassionate experience in the classroom. NCC offers a Middle Level program that prepares teachers to understand the unique characteristics of adolescents and the tools necessary to plan learning experiences for the range of adolescent developmental differences. Students gain experience in public school and young children's classrooms in the very first education course.

The need for dedicated, caring, and highly skilled teachers in our nation's schools is greater than ever before. Northampton is committed to providing an excellent foundation for students preparing to major in middle level education when they transfer to a four-year college or university.
Program Information
If you are a Northampton Community College student living outside of Pennsylvania or intending to complete an internship outside of the state in a NCC program leading to professional licensure, you should review requirements on the state board website to make sure that the program qualifies.
Licensure requirements vary from state to state and you may require additional authorization from the professional licensing agency in that state. Participating in a program from outside of Pennsylvania, if not properly authorized by that state's professional licensing board, could result in loss of licensing eligibility. If you need help or have questions, please contact the Program Director for more information.
Career Opportunities
The Middle Level Education program is designed for students to transfer smoothly into a baccalaureate level teacher education program to pursue teacher certification. The curriculum is designed for students who intend to teach in grades 4-8. NCC's program provides a strong foundation in mathematics, science, language arts and social sciences. Most of this program can be completed online.
