Is the program offered full-time and part-time, and can I start in either the Fall or Spring?

The program can be completed both full and part-time. The program has a Fall start only; however, students can start in the Spring and complete some of their Gen Ed courses to lighten their course load in the following semesters. Availability to attend day classes is required. This program is not offered at night.

Are there industry certifications students can obtain as part of the program?

The Automotive courses are designed to prepare students to take and pass ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) exams. ASE is the nationally recognized organization for Technician certification. PA State Inspection, PA State Emission, and EPA ACT 609 A/C license can be obtained.

What is the difference between a Specialized Diploma, Certificate, and Associate's in Applied Science?

A Specialized Diploma is a two-semester program; the Certificate is a three-semester program, and the Associates in Applied Science is a four-semester program. Each program is stackable, which means you can complete one program and transfer the credits into the next program in sequence. Wages would increase based on the program completed.

What is the average starting salary?

Specialized Diploma - $12-14.00 per hour
Associates in Applied Science - $15-17.00 per hour

What are the physical requirements with this career choice?

Lifting heavy objects, working in a garage environment, possible outdoor environments on any given day; rain, dirt, mud, snow, etc., standing on your feet for extended times.

How much hands-on exposure is there?

Hands-on exposure varies from course to course, but most are 50% or more hands-on. The Automotive program also requires practicums, one practicum for the Specialized Diploma, and three for the A.A.S. degree, allowing the students to experience on-the-job training. At this time, all three manufacturer's programs require the 2-year A.A.S. degree path.

Due to the practicum requirements and business demand, we typically graduate with a 95% placement rate.

Are there online course options within this program?

Not for the technical courses, but there are online academic courses available. There is an online A.A.S. degree program for ASE master Technicians who also have achieved 45-60 hours of OEM or non-OEM verifiable training, requiring transcripts from ASE and the student’s training facilitator.

Are students required to provide their own tools?

  • A basic hand tool set is required for both Specialized Diploma and A.A.S. courses for lab work and internships. A basic hand tool list will be provided, any specialized tools needed for course work will be provided by the school.
  • In addition to hand tools, students must provide their own safety glasses, proper work shoes, and shop attire.

Is there articulation available?

We currently have articulation agreements with 13 secondary schools.

What manufacturers have partnered with the NCC Automotive program?

NCC is currently partnered with FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles), MCAP, General Motors ASEP, and Subaru-Subaru U. Since we provide the manufacturers required training, they provide us with components, vehicles, and specialized tools.

Are there non-credit options available?

We currently offer non-credit PA state safety inspector and PA state emissions licensing programs.

Does NCC offer a diesel or body repair program?

Not at this time.
